Feverfew
$4.50 – $6.00
(Tanacetum parthenium) – A charming herbaceous perennial featuring clusters of small, daisy-like white flowers with yellow centers, reaching 18-24” tall. Known for its aromatic, feathery foliage and traditional medicinal uses, feverfew adds beauty and utility to herb and flower gardens.
Feverfew serves a dual role in the garden: its strong, bitter aroma acts as a natural insect repellent, deterring pests such as mosquitoes and other biting insects, while its flowers attract beneficial insects like hoverflies and tachinid flies, whose larvae prey on common garden pests such as aphids and caterpillars.
Type: Perennial
Sun: Full sun
Water: Prefers well-drained soil; drought-tolerant once established
Transplanting: Transplant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Direct sowing in early spring is also effective.
Options available: Plugs or 2.5-inch plantable pots available
Note: Feverfew is known to self-seed and may become aggressive in optimal conditions. Regular deadheading can help control unwanted spread. While feverfew has been noted to reduce populations of pests such as spider mites, whiteflies, and thrips when used as a companion crop, its efficacy against codling moths has been suggested, but has not been documented.
