A Tale of Two Textiles

Mainstays

In Ladakh, pashmina holds high commercial value among nomadic pastoralists, but wool remains a utilitarian staple across Tibetan refugee settlements. Skills, like weaving and other textile arts, have been essential since ancient times but are in sharp decline as modernization encroaches upon these communities, and the younger generations are losing interest in preserving the traditions. #woolrugs #backstrapweaving
