Intro to Natural Dyes

$120.00

Curious about natural dyes and how they work? Pulling vivid, dimensional color from natural materials can be both fascinating and extremely rewarding. It can also serve as a conduit, connecting us to land, place, and people. For millennia our material landscapes have been layered with colors derived from the environments we inhabit. Spend a day harvesting the rainbow from marigolds, indigo, and cochineal using techniques that you can easily replicate at home. Guided by Keisha we will be introduced to this age-old craft.

Join us for a hands-on sessions where you’ll learn to prepare fibers for lasting natural color, including essential steps like scouring and mordanting.

Together we will learn how to:

  • Prepare fabrics and textiles for dyeing
  • Create 7 beautifully dyed mini-skeins of yarn and one cotton drawstring bag
  • Get a brief itroduction to the magic of indigo

Discover how to create a vibrant rainbow of colors on various natural fibers. Take away useful tips for maximizing exhaust baths, while crafting your own beautiful hues with natural dyes.

Dye workshops are limited to groups of 6 participants per session and require a minimum of 4 attendees to proceed.
