Gulf Coast Native roving – small-batch, hand-shorn, scoured and processed on-farm before final milling locally.
This roving is made from our own flock of heritage Gulf Coast Native sheep. This breed is on the Livestock Conservation list and is valued for its resilience and diverse qualities. The fiber is classified as medium grade, though we find our flock tends to range on the fine-to-medium side, with the natural browns showing slightly more of the rustic characteristics Gulf Coast sheep are prized for.
The roving is carefully shorn, skirted, scoured, and hand-selected in small, seasonal batches by our farmers and students, then sent to a local mill here in Georgia for final de-vegging and carding. The result is a clean, workable roving with all the wonderfully natural characteristics of Gulf Coast wool that we’re proud to produce. It’s well suited for spinning, blending, and felting, making it one of our most versatile fibers.
